The story behind our rebranding and what it means
Moltbot was previously known as Clawdbot. In early 2026, we renamed the project due to trademark concerns raised by Anthropic regarding similarity to "Claude." Rather than fight, we chose to evolve.
The name "molt" refers to what lobsters do when they outgrow their shell—they shed it and grow a new one. It's a natural process of transformation and growth. Like our mascot Molty the lobster, moltbot represents the same core project with a new identity: same soul, new shell.
This transparency is important to us. We believe in being open about our journey, which is why we're sharing this story with you.
⚠️ Important Security Notice
During the rename, scammers created fake cryptocurrency tokens claiming to be associated with moltbot. Moltbot will never launch any cryptocurrency or token. Any such claims are scams. Moltbot is and will always remain a free, open-source project under the MIT License.
